Strolling around Chikugo Yoshii's old town

Chikugo Yoshii (筑後吉井) is a district in Ukiha City (うきは市, -shi), Fukuoka. It is a quite small town, and is known for its traditional domestic architecture of Japan which are made of white wall.

The Shirakabe-dori (白壁通り) Street is a row of traditional buildings along a town street. It is still keeping old buildings in the town that makes a beautiful scenery.

A view of zaigo (在郷町, -machi) or merchant quarters in central Yoshii. The town was highly developed as a post town on the old Bungo Highway (豊後街道) connecting between Kurume, a castle town and Hita, tenryo (天領) or a territory where was directly controlled by the Edo shogunate.
